What you should (and should not) expect from an energy controller.

Some people (we are not among them) are making very enticing claims about the improvements their products will achieve in your electric bill. Like many claims that are hard to believe, there is good reason to doubt these.

In ideal conditions – the least efficient motor adjusted to the very highest efficiency possible without rewriting the laws of physics - dramatic improvements are possible. But in the real world, improvements of over 25% in energy consumption are rare. Our variable units, with their precisely adjustable ranges, are the most efficient available.

A panel installation, as in most homes, covers all the equipment connected to the panel. Each piece of equipment with a motor (dishwasher, fans, refrigerator, etc.) will have a different energy draw.

A 25% drop in amperage does not equal a 25% drop in your electric bill.

In short, if the power controller you are considering is promising very high rate reductions, reach for your salt shaker and take a grain or two.
